For many of us Regionals was the worst tournament we've ever played in in our lives.  Not because of how we played, but because of the playing conditions.  Sideways rain, 30-40mph winds and freezing temperatures were not ideal.  Luckily this was only Saturday, but it was still horible.  We crush the first two teams 15-1 and 15-6.  Next we play the cheaters known as Furious for the top seed in the pool.  Wind picks up to about 40mph in an upwind downwind game.  We cannot throw upwind for more than 20 yards.  Furious can throw about 40 yards and has the advantage of having a guy like Mike Grant receiving on the other end.  They score upwind, we don't, and lose 10-15.  Nobody on either team enjoyed this game.  Last game is prequarters game against Invictus, and we win 15-4.  Only about half our guys play this game because the other guys are huddled together too cold to go in.

We unthaw at the hotel's hot tub with some womens team, and then hit up Red Robin for endless fries and freckled kurt uhler's.  Next morning we face Jam in Quarters.  We end up dropping the disc, making dumb turnovers, and sucking it up on our way to a 6-15 loss.  That puts us in the 3rd place bracket for the last spot to Nationals.  First up is Thompson High.  These guys have been pretty good this season with some pickups, but we have no idea who they brought this weekend.  Their main guy is Aaron Richards.  We have the disc on the goal line at least twice to win the game and decide to blow it.  We end up losing 16-15, after being up 14-10.  Richards single handidly won that game for them, dude is a stud.

Depressed, we now have to play Rhino in the 7th place placement game.  We know it will not be easy to find the energy or heart to win this game.  Fortunately Rhino also just lost a season ending game against Voodoo, and they happen to be even more depressed.  We crush 15-6.  We hang out, watch finals, the game to go, and head back to the airport, where we can look forward to the highlight of our trip, the "club on a plane" as we liked to call it, the Virgin America flight.  If you've seen Soul Plane, you know what we're talking about.  Most importantly, we reached our team goal for the season, so we're happy with that despite the fact we didn't reach our potential.  We also managed to build a lot of friendships that will last a lifetime.

It's been a little while since the tournament took place, so our memories are a little fuzzy, but this is what we remember.  We crush in our first two games, reminding ourselves that all our hardwork in practice did pay off.  We're finally playing as pretty much a full team, and it shows.  Our only real test of the day is against Jam, top seed in our pool.  We play a fairly even game with them.  They change strategies at half, which seems to payoff as they get a couple breaks.  Our D team only gets a couple chances to score, as Jam refuses to turn over the disc.  Considering they went on to win Club Nationals, we played a solid game here.  Lose 10-15 in the end.  Crush another Berkeley college squad to finish the day, before heading over to Gordon Biersch for some delicious garlic fries and college football.

Sunday morning we're lined up to play Revolver in the semis.  Many of us are confident we can win this game.  They end up throwing a defense against us we haven't seen much this year, and our offense is thrown off.  We have a hard time scoring, and they score at ease.  We fail to adjust our defense as they continue to score on us.  We lose 7-15.  We have to play two more bracket games in the 2nd place bracket now.  First up is an ex-Valhalla/ex-Sick of it All veteran team that we beat previously.  We continue to crush them.  After that is the new Santa Cruz squad, who beat us once in a scrimmage.  Apparantly our hard work between then and now has paid off, as we crush them 15-8.  That sets us up for a rematch against Revolver.

They just lost a heartbreaker against Jam, and put a lot of energy into that game.  Us on the other hand, we had just crushed two teams, and were feeling good.  We knew we'd have the momentum to start the game.  Unfortunately we just miss several scores in the beginning of the game as we try to make our life more difficult.  On the other side of the ball, the defense is getting the disc throughout the game, but fails to score, often turning the disc over right at the endzone.  Regardless, we play better, albeit a little tired in our 8th game (Revolver's 7th).  Final score is 10-15, though much closer at one point.  We finish 3rd in the section behind Jam and Revolver, and eventually earn the 7th seed at Regionals.

YR swam into Chico as the #1 seed. There was some stiff competition in the ocean (pool?) that weekend, including two teams we had lost to last time we played them, as well as teams that have been to Nationals in the last few years (L.A. Monster and Portland Rhino). Having been newly transformed into sharks we were able to stay cool under water while the rest of the competition baked in the 100 degree sun.  On Saturday we chomped our way through teams, exacting revenge on the two teams we had lost to previously.

On Saturday night we were in the showcase game against Rhino. Last time we played them we beat them on their home turf. We knew they had been working hard since then, looking to exact revenge. They also had the added advantage of getting to play in the Seattle Invite against the countries top teams a few weeks earlier. And with that experience they brought the fire. We were down 9-3 at one point. Finally late in the game the O stopped dropping the disc and the D was able to bring the intensity up to the level Rhino was playing at and we started to come back. I believe at one point the score was 8-10 them. The game finished 8-13 in their favor. None of us were satisfied with this game. Highlights included Scott Miller getting a ridiculous sky over a crowd of people and Matt West with a layout D to save a goal

YR 3.0: We'll give you a ride.

The team was ready to take the field at Solstice 23 faces strong and rocking new jerseys and shorts from 5Ultimate. The Elite division was playing under experimental rules where observer made active travel calls and enforced harsher penalties for out-of-bounds and offsides pulls. Games were to 19 on Saturday and 21 on Sunday, ensuring that even 5 games in a weekend will be a long haul.
